Power to the People!

Mathew Street Festival - Like a Sore Thumb

This was taken at the Mathew Street Festival in Liverpool recently, I think I enjoyed photographing people's hands more than anything else, I love to look at people's hands, I think you can tell all kinds of things about a person from their hands....

Hopefully I won't neglect the blog for so long again!

Bombed...

The Bombed Out Church, Liverpool, UK, (February)

St Paul's was built in 1831, it suffered bomb damage during the Blitz in May 1941... it was decided that this haunting building should never be repaired - it was left in its damaged yet perfect state, as a place of tranquillity and thoughtfulness, nestled within the hubbub of a modern busy city...

Serenity

Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King
Liverpool
February

Some of the many stained glass windows inside

I took my littlest to see the catholic cathedral yesterday morning, the sky was an amazing bright blue and the light was perfect for photos so we set off in a happy mood to have an adventure. We got to the cathedral and Mimi was antsy to get inside so I took just a few shots of the front then we found the ramp and went inside...

We had to use the lift to get to the top level (this cathedral also has an amazing crypt), the lift was noisy and old and we were chattering away, then the door open and a heavy silence enveloped us. The inside of the main part of the cathedral is almost indescribable - it's circular, and there are windows of many shapes, sizes and colours, the ceiling has a dome of stained glass that looks like shards of a thousand hues of light. The colours hang in the air in shafts, and there are many small offshoot chapels with more coloured windows. Mimi was absolutely entranced for over an hour!

It's beautiful but very hard to photograph - my camera turned around and said 'Abi you're going to have to use manual focus for all these shots, I just cannae do it captain!' so this was a real trial of what I'd remembered from the manual!

Foreboding

A sepia shot of Croxteth Hall...

January 2010, Croxteth Hall, Liverpool

I love this building, it has so many different angles and architectural types... I really like seeing couples get married here, they must get so many lovely shots!

I usually wander around the outside of the building and imagine myself living there, being driven around in a horse drawn carriage, riding my horse through the grounds, and inevitably daydreaming of the lovely dresses I'd wear, but this time I had to concentrate on taking photos teehee...

Run!

Another photo taken in Croxteth Park, I really need to get out there with the camera again soon! I edited this to black and white afterwards, but there is a funky setting for black and white shots that I need to experiment with on my camera...

I love it when the kids feel free to run off and explore, they disappeared like woodland creatures into the undergrowth!
